Common Task
Short film, 2017
Part provocation, part science fiction, the short film tells a story of a technologist’s becoming in a world of fully simulated planned economy, where all activity is tracked and all data is stored forever.
Common Task speculates on an alternative Russian history which combines and embraces the philosophy of Russian cosmism, Soviet cybernetics research, and contemporary technopositivism. A new belief system dubbed Neocosmism promotes immortality as the common task of the humankind.
Research and production took place during The New Normal postgraduate research residency at Strelka Institute, Moscow in collaboration with Michaela Büsse.
